This last birth was special. I was her mother’s midwife for her 2 youngest brothers. It is special to work with families that have a deep belief that birth works. They trust that God knew what He was doing when He created a women’s body to bare children. There is no doubt that the baby will come out or that breastfeeding will work. Having the baby at home is just the way it’s done. There is no reason to be at the hospital- no one is sick.
This baby came on Valentine’s Day with much jesting that she could never top this Valentine gift to her husband! This mama birthed her baby supported by her mother and sister who have been studying midwifery. It was sweet to see these women work together through out the labor and birth; and sweeter yet to see this mama’s glowing smile everytime I have come to check on them!
